Not Liking Yaoi doesn't mean Homophobic

One of the arguments slash and yaoi fangirls tend to use on us is if we hate yaoi the genre, that makes us homophobic.

Well, I know plenty of gay men who don't like yaoi because it's not a genre that is actually written for them.

It really isn't.  Yaoi itself is not aimed at gay men, it is a genre that is geared towards heterosexual, teenage girls primarily.  And it usually involves straight men having a same sex relationship for the purpose to make the girls squee.  Because for some strange reason, teenage girls these days find two men who are cute, and want to ship them together.

However, it leaves out a lot of things that real gay men are into.  Such as the bear fetish.  Hey, yaoi fangirls, you ever heard of bears before?

Hairy, lumberjack, un-effeminate men?  Very, heavily masculine men with hairy chests and beards?  You don't wanna write yaoi fiction on that?

A lot of gay men like that sort of thing.  It's funny, you girls don't draw images of those kind of men wanting to have a romantic relationship with each other.

Most gay men aren't attracted to androgynous people.  They're gay.  They like MEN.  Masculine looking men.  Your genre doesn't really cater to them.  

So, to call us homophobic because we don't like yaoi is a bit silly.  Because yaoi itself is not geared to homosexual men, it's geared to heterosexual, young teenage girls who like hairless, effeminate men and boys.  The girlier, the better, basically.  But Yaoi don't really depict actual masculine looking men.

I actually want to implore many of our actual gay members to show us what actual homosexual relationships look like to these teenagers who wanna call us homophobic for not liking yaoi, and then compare that to what the fangirls think gay relationships are.  And to basically show them why not liking yaoi isn't the same as being homophobic.

And importantly, to again show yaoi fangirls that their little fetish isn't geared towards the actual LGBT community.  So, us not liking yaoi isn't at all homophobic.
